Parents Can Receive Emergency Text Messages
By Keith Humphrey, Dean of Students Office
As part of The University of Arizona’s comprehensive emergency response procedures, UAlert! was launched last semester. UAlert! is the UA’s emergency text messaging system that will communicate with students, faculty, and staff in the event of a campus emergency.
One of the unique features of UAlert! allows students to register one non-UA community member to receive emergency text messages in addition to themselves. This means that a parent, family member, spouse, partner, or other individual important to the UA student can be instantly informed as part of campus emergency communications.
Since the launch of UAlert! at Family Weekend 2007 more than 10,000 people have signed up for the service and many students have added a parent to receive emergency text messages. The UA Parents & Family Association encourages you to check with your student to make sure they have registered their mobile telephone and the mobile telephone of a parent or family member. Students can register by clicking on the UAlert! link on the UA home page (www.arizona.edu) or the UA Parents & Family Association home page (www.uafamily.arizona.edu).
Parents and family members cannot register for the UAlert! service individually and students can only add one additional mobile phone number. The UA Parents & Family Association will continue to email parents and family members emergency information when appropriate and post updates on our home page (www.uafamily.arizona.edu). Please bookmark this site and visit it frequently!
