A Lifeline for Your Students: “The UA Survivor Guide” in the Arizona Daily Wildcat
By Beth Harrison, Ph. D.
In 2006-07 the University Learning Center received a generous grant from the UA Parents & Family Association to help support a new project: We wanted to ask students to write a weekly ‘survival guide’ article for the campus newspaper, the Arizona Daily Wildcat. We figured that successful students would be the best people to help other students become more effective learners and that students would listen more to their peers than to campus professionals.
Students and faculty across campus have told us that they read the “Survivor Guide” regularly and find the advice in it both timely and valuable. Some faculty even recommend the articles to the students in their classes. The series continues this year with more funding from the UA Parents & Family Association, so you may want to suggest that your student look at the bottom of page 3 in the Wildcat every Wednesday for tips and ideas about how to make the most of their time in college.
You can read the Arizona Daily Wildcat online each day at wildcat.arizona.edu. Your student can visit the University Learning Center on the second floor of Old Main to take advantage of the great services sponsored by the UA Parents & Family Association.
