Your Student’s Second Transcript
By Jill Burchell, Center for Student Involvement & Leadership
Have you ever wished that there was an official transcript, not only to display your student’s academic activities, but to display their extracurricular activities or involvement as well? At the University of Arizona, we have an answer. The Leadership & Involvement Transcript (LIT) is a co-curricular program allowing students access to a verified transcript of all out-of-class involvement.
Students use official copies of their LIT for graduate or professional school applications, scholarship applications, employment applications, or as an excellent supplement to any résumé. All of the information a student submits for their LIT must have a reference, and each reference is contacted for verification. This ensures the accuracy of all information found on the LIT.
The LIT is also a tool for assessing leadership skills and ensuring students are learning a broad range of skills before leaving The University of Arizona. Each transcript entry asks students to reflect on what skills they learned during their participation. Therefore, the LIT is useful for both documenting and making important decisions regarding involvement activities on campus.
Thanks to a generous grant from The UA Parents and Family Association, the Leadership & Involvement Transcript will be updating and improving technologically this year. The program will not only be more user friendly, but also much less administratively heavy. As a result, the LIT staff will have more time to focus on helping students to get involved and build their leadership skills. This year, we can now focus on outreach and serving a broader section on campus. We look forward to increasing our numbers and our efficacy, thanks to your generous support.
